Mike Hicks, November Artist of the Month

Mike Hicks of the Nueces Canyon is the Camp Wood Public Library’s current featured artist.  Mike, son of John and Barbara Hicks, was born in Hobbs, New Mexico and later moved to Cypress, Texas north of Houston. While attending Cypress Fair High School, Mike took a photography course that launched his lifelong photography hobby. Mike graduated from Texas A&M at College Station with a business degree, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Sul Ross University.

Mike has three children, two daughters and a son, and six grandchildren. He has lived and worked in the Nueces Canyon since 1955, first selling real estate and then for the school district as a teacher and in administration. Continuing his work career, he moved to Houston to build houses and later transferred his skills to work in the oil industry. No matter where work takes Mike, his love is to always return to home in the Canyon. Most of the library’s displayed photos were taken in the Nueces Canyon area.
